Why Gratitude is My Word for 2023

Supplemental Health Care’s Chief Operating Officer, Vickie Anenberg, recently shared a message about the company’s year in review to employees and stakeholders.

This year, the one word I’ve chosen to focus on is “Gratitude” — and for good reason. It can be difficult to focus on the positives when we’re faced with setbacks and challenges. By looking for what you can be grateful for in every situation, you can learn more from failures and take time to celebrate successes.

As I reflect on 2023 during National Gratitude Month, there are many opportunities to be grateful at Supplemental Health Care.

My One Word

The concept of One Word is simple: you select a single word for goal setting… a single word that has the power to change your life. The idea comes from the book The One Word Journal: Your Daily Journal for Life-Change by bestselling authors Jon Gordon, Dan Britton, and Jimmy Page.

Since 2020, I’ve invited our SHC employees to choose their One Word to focus on in the coming year. They could choose any word they’d like as their personal and professional focus over that time. Over the course of the last four years, our employees have selected several powerful words of focus individually and risen to the many challenges we’ve faced together.

My Reasons for Gratitude in 2023

There are so many reasons to be grateful and to show gratitude this year. From working with some of the top talent in healthcare and being recognized as a top staffing firm to creating new technology and placing a focus on DEI&B, there is so much to be thankful for.

As I look back over our many challenges and achievements, I can see how much we have accomplished together at SHC in 2023. Here are some of the reasons I am most grateful to work at this company with such talented internal employees, compassionate healthcare professionals, and dedicated client partners.

SHC’s Growth and Success

Supplemental Health Care has continued to grow and succeed in healthcare staffing over this last year. In 2023, SHC was named to Staffing Industry Analysts (SIA) top Fastest-Growing Staffing Firms list as well as Largest Healthcare Staffing Firms and Largest Staffing Firms in the U.S.

At Supplemental Health Care, our continued growth and success would not be possible without our tremendously accomplished staff, talent network, and clients. This year, we have continued to innovate and focus on our impact, to pave the way for more change and progress in the coming years.

SHC’s World Class Customer Service

This year, Supplemental Health Care was also awarded two prestigious awards: ClearlyRated’s 2023 Best of Staffing Talent and Client awards. This wasn’t the first time — in fact, we are proud to be a sixth-year winner of both these awards for outstanding client and talent satisfaction.

It’s important to note that clients of winning agencies are more than 70% more likely to be satisfied with staffing services. For candidates, they’re 80% more likely to be satisfied when placed by agencies that have won these awards. We’re proud to be recognized as offering world-class service for both our healthcare professionals and client partners.

A Celebration of Our Talent at SHC

2023 has been an exciting time to celebrate exceptional talent within our community. Our very own Dr. Kelly Byrd was named the ASA National Staffing Employee of the Year and Health Care Sector All-Star for 2024. This honor is awarded to only one contract employee of the staffing industry’s more than 14 million annual employees and we cannot think of a more deserving recipient.

Dr. Byrd has spent her career championing children’s literacy, working as a school speech-language pathologist with Supplemental Health Care for over ten years. We have been honored to support Dr. Byrd’s efforts to promote Black family literacy through her nonprofit, Love for Literacy, and with her own children’s book. We are forever grateful to be a part of Dr. Byrd’s story.

SHC’s Continued Impact on Our Communities

SHC continues to have an impact mission that aims to create a more sustainable future for people and the planet. We are focused on solving healthcare staffing shortages, providing high-quality service and competitive pay, and placing hard-to-find healthcare talent in roles where they can help advance the quality of healthcare for all people’s benefit.

As a company, we have come together to build meaningful philanthropic partnerships with nonprofits like Operation Happy Nurse, the National Black Nurses Association, Camp Quality, and Hope Builders. I am also grateful that we have been able to continue positively impact our own communities internally through new DEI&B leadership and employee resource groups (ERGs).

Innovation and Technology

We could not discuss this year’s achievements without thinking about how innovative our teams have been. This year, SHC is proud to have developed and improved our SHC WeConnect mobile app. This app has been transformative for our business, and our team is continuing to improve this essential technology.

With a suite of features to help healthcare professionals manage their careers, thousands of SHC talent now use the app and benefit from its innovative functions to make it easier to access benefits, streamline timecard submissions, and even help find their next assignments.

I’m so excited for even more technological advancements in the next year to support our employees, talent, and client partners, so we can focus on our personal connections and support quality patient care delivery.

A Year for Gratitude

As we wrap up 2023, now is the right time to reflect back and appreciate everything we are grateful for at Supplemental Health Care. I am so proud and thankful for our employees, client partners, and healthcare professionals and all we have accomplished this year to fuel miraculous moments in patient care. As I reflect on gratitude this November with our team, I am looking forward to more amazing things to come in 2024.
