Jasmine M. began her healthcare career as a certified nursing assistant. From very early on in her career, those around her saw that she embodied all the qualities needed to be a great registered nurse. Jasmine really enjoyed her job, so she took their advice and became an RN.
Throughout her career journey, she has never looked back. Jasmine explains that her love for being the best nurse she can be comes from her inherent desire to make others feel better and help them return to being themselves.
These qualities, characteristics, and the skills that others saw in her have translated to her becoming an exceptional care provider. Recently, a challenging situation with a patient and her empathy in handling it has led to her being recognized by the client and being awarded the Care More Spotlight. Jasmine’s recruiter, Terrance, nominated her for this honor and explained the situation that led to this recognition.
A young patient suffering from alcohol withdrawal came under Jasmine’s care at the hospital. Her records indicated that she had previously been admitted multiple times with each admission resulting in her leaving against medical advice. In speaking with Jasmine, the patient expressed how important it was for her to stay and get treatment this time for the sake of her daughter and herself.
A day or so later, the patient was having a particularly difficult time and left the hospital against medical advice. Jasmine knew how vital it was for this patient to stay for treatment, so she kept providing words of encouragement and reminded her of all the important reasons the patient had to stay and see it through. Despite Jasmine’s best efforts, the patient still left.
About 30 minutes later, an unknown call came into Jasmine’s unit asking for her. It was Jasmine’s patient in great distress. She was crying and pleading to come back to the hospital and that her storming out was a mistake.
Jasmine calmed her down and explained the hospital policy and process for her to return through the emergency department. Later, at the end of her shift, Jasmine felt compelled to visit the ED on her way out to see if her patient had followed through after their conversation. She was there in the waiting room. Jasmine told her how proud she was of her and hugged her tightly.
By caring and supporting her patient, Jasmine profoundly impacted this young lady’s life. A month later, Jasmine was informed that they had received a heartfelt email from the former patient expressing her gratitude for how she was treated and thanking Jasmine for being a part of why she was in rehab getting the help she needed.
It is always in Jasmine’s nature to go above and beyond for her patients. In explaining her motivations, she feels it is important to see that hard work pays off and genuinely making a difference in her patients’ lives keeps her going.
