Adriana Venegas, a candidate support specialist at Supplemental Health Care, was recently recognized for her volunteer work helping young adults advance their careers in healthcare and education. As a leader of SHC’s Latinx employee resource group, Adriana felt especially called to give back to the community through this volunteer opportunity.

As a candidate success specialist, Adriana ensures that staff get the maximum value from SHC’s services. Her team guides professionals through the onboarding process, provides support, and fosters long-term success with Supplemental Health Care.

Speaking of what she loves most about her job, Adriana says, “I love building strong relationships with the talent and recruiting manager I assist. I feel my job gives me the opportunity to contribute to growth and customer retention, which helps the entire company.”

Adriana’s passion for helping others doesn’t stop there. As an employee resources group leader and Hope Builders volunteer, she has expanded her impact even further.

“Volunteering is a rewarding experience, as I’m a true believer that we find more happiness in giving than receiving. Participating in the Latinx ERG has allowed me to connect with colleagues who share similar backgrounds and interests. It also creates a platform for me to contribute to diversity and inclusion in our work environment.”

Adriana and the Latinx ERG helped lead a recent volunteering effort by participating in mock interviews with Hope Builders to help prepare candidates for job interviews in their chosen field. Volunteers were provided with a job description for the role and an interview question guide. Trainees then meet with SHC volunteers on Zoom to practice their interview skills and review feedback afterwards.

SHC has partnered with Hope Builders over the last several years on several fundraising and volunteering opportunities. The non-profit aims to equip trainees from underserved communities with the tools they need to find success in their careers. The program includes paths for para-educators, instructional aides, behavioral technicians, and medical assistants.

“I feel strongly about the mission Hope Builders has of helping young lives achieve their goals and have a chance at a better life. It is very satisfactory to see how these young men and women (from minority groups) get confident and get ready to create a better world for themselves, their families, and the community. I think [the training] gives them the opportunity to create comfort and confidence by practicing and getting more comfortable when the time comes [for an interview].”

As a Latina and immigrant whose parents relocated to the U.S. when Adriana was young, Adriana was impressed and inspired by the Hope Builders trainees she met.

“I am deeply inspired by the resilience and determination of the young women I’ve interviewed — they’re balancing family, education, and career aspirations with lots of perseverance. I admire their courage and dedication to creating a better life for themselves and their families.”

Adriana is excited to continue giving back and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month this September/October. SHC’s Latinx ERG will help spotlight culture, traditions, and history, showing the beauty and diversity of Hispanic and Latin communities. Adriana invites everyone to join us to learn more about, share, and appreciate the heritage of Hispanic and Latinx people!
